About the Program

The Spinal Cord Injury/Disorders (SCI/D) of the VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS) in San Juan, Puerto Rico was established in May 23, 1973.  The range of services available in the Spinal Cord System of Care supports the hospital’s mission which involves provision of high quality of care that is comprehensive, timely, and continuous and delivered in a compassionate and efficient manner. The Spinal Cord System of Care provides coordinated, case-managed, integrated services for people with spinal cord dysfunction, whether due to trauma or disease.

Services Offered

Staff and physicians work closely with the spinal cord injured veteran, family members, and significant others to ensure the highest quality of care. Our clinic work 24 hours per day 7 days a week and is located on the 4th floor of our main facility.  

We assist the spinal cord injured in the following areas —

  • social
  • emotional
  • recreational
  • vocational and fuctional recovery
