VISN 8 announces stakeholder listening sessions - The sessions are part of 50 similar events being held across the country from March through June 2021 to hear from Veterans on how to design a health care system of the future and grow services for Veterans in a way that reinforces VA’s role as a leader in the U.S. health care system. VACHS is Offering Vaccines, Walk ins are Accepted - SAN JUAN, PR: VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS) is offering the Janssen and Moderna vaccines to anyone who served in the military, their caregivers, spouses, and some other beneficiaries under the authority granted by the SAVE LIVES Act at San Juan VA Medical Center and selected VA Clinics. Vaccination Clinic at Euripides Rubio Ponce CBOC - VA Caribbean Healthcare System (VACHS) is offering a Moderna COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the Euripides Rubio, Ponce Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). (04/12/2021)

Saves Lives Act, All Veterans, Caregivers and Spouses - San Juan , Puerto Rico — VACHS announced today it is providing COVID-19 vaccinations to anyone who served in the military, and their caregivers and spouses, and some other beneficiaries under the authority granted by the SAVE LIVES Act, signed by President Joe Biden March 24, 2021. Covid-19 Vaccines for Veterans | St. Croix - The VA Caribbean Health Care System will be offering vaccinations at St Croix, prioritizing those veterans who scheduled a vaccine appointment, and will receive walk-in patients for vaccination while inventory lasts. Covid-19 Vaccines for Veterans | San Juan & Outpatient Clinics - SAN JUAN, PR — The San Juan VA is offering COVID-19 vaccinations to Veterans receiving care at VA and who are 65 years or older. There is no cost to receive the vaccine. Vaccinations are by appointment only! The VA Caribbean Health Care System will be offering vaccinations, by appointment only, at the following locations beginning Wednesday, January 20 through Friday, January 22 (01/20/2021)

COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution For Veterans - Mayaguez and Ponce, Puerto Rico — The San Juan VA Caribbean Healthcare System and selected Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCS) will start COVID-19 vaccination tomorrow following the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Emergency Use Authorization for this vaccine. VA Caribbean COVID-19 Vaccinations - San Juan — The VA Caribbean Health System began administering COVID-19 vaccinations to frontline health care employees and Veterans residing in long-term care Community Living and Spinal Cord Injury and Disorder centers today. (12/17/2020)

Información Actualizada: COVID-19 - Efectivo el 15 de junio de 2020, el Sistema de Salud de Veteranos del Caribe reanuda citas en persona de dermatología y biopsia de tiroides. Personal del Hospital de Veteranos estará llamando a aquellos veteranos que deban ser atendidos de manera presencial. Como parte de las medidas preventivas los pacientes citados deben acceder los predios del Hospital de Veteranos 30 minutos antes de la hora de su cita y salir de los predios 30 minutos después de concluir la misma.” (06/15/2020)

Información Actualizada: COVID-19 - Efectivo el 1 de junio de 2020, el Sistema da Salud de Veteranos del Caribe (VACHS por sus siglas en inglés) iniciará la primera fase de expansión de servicios presenciales. Esto lo haremos de forma gradual y velando por la seguridad de todos. En esta primera fase reanudaremos ciertos servicios de radiología. Los pacientes a ser vistos de forma presencial serán contactados por nuestro personal para coordinar sus citas. En las próximas semanas, de no haber un incremento en casos positivos a COVID-19 en nuestras comunidades, el VACHS estará reanudando otros servicios presenciales. (05/30/2020)

Puerto Rico National Cemetery will commemorate Memorial Day with a solemn Wreath Laying Ceremony - The Department of Veterans Affairs Puerto Rico National Cemetery (PRNC) will host a solemn Memorial Day Wreath Laying Ceremony, accompanied by brief remarks, a moment of silence, and the playing of Taps. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this will not be a public ceremony. At 03:00 p.m., a one minute of silence will be observed for quiet reverence and reflection on the sacrifices made by deceased Veterans. (05/20/2020)

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update - To help reduce the spread of COVID-19, we will also begin proactively transitioning primary care, specialty care and mental health appointments to phone or video conference through VA Video Connect where appropriate. Suicide Prevention Month Campaign - San Juan — In observance of Suicide Prevention Month, the VA Caribbean Healthcare System is bringing awareness to its #BeThere campaign by encouraging community leaders, colleagues, and Veterans’ families and friends to help prevent suicide by showing support for those who may be going through a difficult time. Start the conversation about mental health struggles and suicide prevention. Together, we can work in breaking the stigma and create awareness that suicide is preventable and treatable. (09/09/2019)

New Ponce Outpatient Clinic - Ground Breaking Event - The new Outpatient Clinic will have 107,388 net usable square feet. In addition to Primary Care, Urology, Mental Health, Laboratory Services, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Radiology, Optometry, Sonography, Ophthalmology, Podiatry, Minor Surgery, Ear Nose and Throat, Prosthetics, and Audiology, Home Based Primary Care will now be available through the clinic. Groundbreaking Ceremony for the New Arecibo Community Based Clinic - The new Community Based Outpatient Clinic will more than double clinic space to nearly 20,000 square feet. In addition to primary care, mental health, laboratory and telemedicine services, home based primary care will now be available through the clinic. A $3 million contract was awarded to Arecibo PRD, Inc. for building improvements which will take approximately 12 months to complete. (05/10/2019)

VA Announces Grants in Puerto Rico to Help End Veterans Homelessness - VA Announces Grants in Puerto Rico to Help End Veterans Homelessness Initiative Targets 42,000 Homeless and At-Risk Vets and Families Nationwide Aguadilla, PR – Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki announced today the award of $336,020 in homeless prevention grants to the Puerto Rico counties of: Aguadilla, Casa Del Peregrino Inc. The grants will serve approximately 150 homeless and at-risk Veteran families as part of the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. This award will serve Veteran families associated with one of 151 community agencies in 49 states and the District of Columbia to receive a grant. (07/12/2012)

VA Deploying 20 New Mobile Vet Centers - COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Department of Veterans Affairs today deployed 20 additional Mobile Vet Centers from the production facility of Farber Specialty Vehicles to increase access to readjustment counseling services for Veterans and their families in rural and underserved communities across the country.VA launched the 20 new vehicles to their destinations ranging across the continental United States, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. LEASE AWARD FOR THE NEW MAYAGUEZ OUTPATIENT CLINIC - Mayaguez, Puerto Rico -The VA Caribbean Healthcare System is pleased to announce that the lease for the New Mayaguez Outpatient Clinic was awarded.
