Mental Health

If you qualify for VA health care, you can get high-quality mental health services as part of your benefits. You may also be able to get care for certain mental health problems even if you don't have VA health care.

About the Program

This area consists of four professional sections that are integrated and coordinated with each other to provide clinical services. These are Psychiatry, Psychology, Social Work, and Chaplain. In addition there are five Patient Care Lines as follows:

2.  Substance Abuse

3.  Psychosocial and Community Services

  • Medicine and Surgery Units
  • Primary Care (Medicine)
  • Nursing Home Care
  • Blind Rehabilitation, HIV/AIDS Patients and Homeless Program
  • Foster Homes, Contract Nursing Homes, and Homemaker Program

4.  Specialty Programs

  • Neuropsychological Program

  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Clinic (PTSD)

Services Offered

Mental health services provided at VA Caribbean Healthcare System include treatments for —

  • depression, sadness, grief
  • anxiety, worry, nervousness
  • addictive behaviors
  • relationship problems
  • stress from medical problems and/or pain
  • post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • emotional problems, such as managing anger
  • vocational issues
  • troublesome thoughts or ideas
  • confused thinking
  • aggressive or self-harming behaviors
  • memory problems

We also provide outreach to homeless veterans.


Mental health services are confidential. We will not talk to anyone about information you share unless you give written consent. Under federal law, a few exceptions to this rule exist. If you have questions, please ask your mental health consultant.

Mental Health Administrative

Mental Health Services within the VA Caribbean Healthcare System are organized under three main independent units; namely, Psychiatry, Psychology, and Social Work Services under the Office of the Chief of Staff.

These work every closely and collaboratively to provide state of the art mental health services to eligible Veterans and their families.

All three Services are an integral part of our Health System and count with the support of other services such as Nursing, Occupational and Recreational Therapy, and the Vet Centers.
